چکیده
Effective methods for manipulating, isolating and sorting cells and particles are essential for the development of microfluidic-based life science research and diagnostic platforms. We demonstrate an integrated optical platform for cell and particle sorting in microfluidic structures. Fluorescent-dyed particles are excited using an integrated optical waveguide network within micro-channels. A diode-bar optical trapping scheme guides the particles across the waveguide/micro-channel structures and selectively sorts particles based upon their fluorescent signature. This integrated detection and separation approach streamlines microfluidic cell sorting and minimizes the optical and feedback complexity commonly associated with extant platforms.

Design of a new asymmetric waveguide in InP-Based multi-quantum well laser
Today, electron leakage in InP-based separate confinement laser diode has a serious effect on device performance. Control of electron leakage current is the aim of many studies in semiconductor laser industry. In this study, for the first time, a new asymmetric waveguide structure with n-interlayer for a 1.325 μm InP-based laser diode with InGaAsP multi-quantum well is proposed and theoreticall...
متن کاملUsing of Broadened Asymmetric Waveguide Structure for 980nm Diode Laser
Laser diode beam divergence is the main parameter for beam shaping and fiber optic coupling. Increasing the waveguide layer thickness is the conventional method to decrease the beam divergence. In this paper, the broadened asymmetric waveguide is introduced to decrease the divergence without increasing the optical power. The asymmetric waveguide was used to shift the vertical optical field to n...

We present an optical trapping system combining individually addressable multiple laser traps with fluorescence spectroscopy. An in-line set of 64 near-IR laser diodes is used to create a line of individually addressable traps inside a microfluidic chip. This system is completed by an excitation/detection line for spectrally resolved fluorescence imaging of trapped particles. Highly parallel tr...
متن کاملSingle Substrate Integration of Optical Waveguides, Microfluidic Circuitry and Photodiodes
We present a device with integrated buried optical waveguides, a microfluidic channel and photodiodes. This device can, for instance, be used as detection unit for absorption measurements on very small volumes (sub nanoliter) of fluid. The fabricated waveguide and diode structures exhibit a low noise equivalent power of 0.5 nW (488 nm, 10 Hz), demonstrating the possibility of using this setup f...
